MEDICAL AND SCIENCE BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS
Knitting Comfortably, The Ergonomics of Handknitting
I created more 50 medical and technical illustrations for Carson Demer’s beautiful book. In some cases I was painting over photos other times I made line drawings or full color depiction of the human body. The book became a great success since 2016 and currently you can buy the second print of it.
This book will help you understand the ergonomics of knitting so you can improve your safety, efficiency, and productivity in knitting. You’ll learn to identify ergonomic risks that contribute to injury and reduce knitting efficiency. Throughout the book, you’ll be provided with activities and guidance to improve your knitting ergonomics so you can knit more confidently and comfortably. Through instruction in stretches, exercise, and self-care, you’ll also learn how to manage the discomfort common to knitters before it becomes an injury, and how to recognize when it’s time to seek help from a health-care professional.
Join me in this unique knit-along that will help make a more comfortable, lifelong knitter out of you.

JAWS, The Story of a Hidden Epidemic
Published by Stanford University Press
Published in English April 2018
It is always a great pleasure to work with Dr Sandra Kahn orthodontist. It was our third project together.
“There’s a silent epidemic in western civilization, and it is right under our noses. Our jaws are getting smaller and our teeth crooked and crowded, creating not only aesthetic challenges but also difficulties with breathing. Modern orthodontics has persuaded us that braces and oral devices can correct these problems. While teeth can certainly be straightened, what about the underlying causes of this rapid shift in oral evolution and the health risks posed by obstructed airways?
Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich, a pioneering orthodontist and a world-renowned evolutionist, respectively, present the biological, dietary, and cultural changes that have driven us toward this major health challenge. They propose simple adjustments that can alleviate this developing crisis, as well as a major alternative to orthodontics that promises more significant long-term relief. Jaws will change your life. Every parent should read this book.”

She is incredibly talented, she understands exactly what I want to illustrate and she creates the perfect communication tool. She not only draws perfect medical anatomy but she makes it beautiful. She is a joy to work with, it’s like having a magic wand to create exactly what I need. I would recommend her highly for any illustration or design project!”

Dr Lani‘s No-Nonsense Bone Health Guide
Dr Lani‘s No-Nonsense Bone Health Guide
a best selling book about Osteoporosis
Published by Hunter House Publishers, California
Under Dr Lani’s supervision I worked for months creating and labeling the images. As the paper edition was printed in black and white, the images needed to look great and readable in grayscale too. The color versions are used at her webinars and presentations. We used reference images, photos, X-ray images from archives, they were often low resolution, so I relied a lot on Lani’s description too.
“Susan was wonderful to work with. She provided the illustrations for my book, Dr. Lani’s No-Nonsense Bone Health Guide. Many were difficult anatomical illustrations and she nailed them. She deeply cares about the quality of her work and made every effort to provide me with top notch illustrations. We worked via Skype, which was also very easy to facilitate, share screens and discuss the project. I highly recommend Susan.

At the beginning of 2015 Dr. Sandra Kahn orthodontist decided to put together a small booklet for her patients about an amazing new method that she was using. Sandra already knew me from previous personal projects and other medical books I prepared illustrations for her. Dr. Kahn collaborated with Dr. Simon Wong from Melbourne. The booklet started to grow and eventually became 40 pages, a colorfully illustrated non-fiction picture book, aiming children and parents who are intersted in practicing with GOPex.
I created almost all of the more than 35 illustrations, some of them are medical-anatomical, others are depicting exercises, sequences of exercises, charts, diagrams. We even used short comic strips to teach in an entertaining way. I also helped with branding and created their logo.
