Short Stories “Here are a Few Beard Facts:
1. The human face consists of three parts anatomically, controlled by the fifth cranial nerve of the brain. This nerve has three divisions namely to the eyes (ophthalmic), those to the midface (maxillary) and those to the jaw bone area (mandibular). From a Chassidus perspective, the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is a ‘Hei’ (ה). This letter corresponds to the three divisions of the anatomical face. In fact the opening of the Hei represents the mouth from which speech (dibbur) emits. Now so holy is this area, that it receives a special covering of coarse hair that we call the beard. The only other part of the body that has such a covering (yesod) is used for the holy act of procreation…..”
